Buri Ram

The city is the capital of the province of Buriram, Thailand and located in the northeastern region which known as Isaan. It is located about 410 kilometers from Bangkok city center. Basically the city is divided into twenty-three districts called Amphoe. There are many historic buildings such as temples or ancient temples scattered in several parts of the region. The city is also famous for its local products such as silk, cotton and sand stone carving making many tourists attracted to come for a layover.

Things to see

Many historic temples or shrines can be found here. One of them is the Prasat Hin Khao Phanom Rung. This place is a temple complex relic of the Kingdom of Khmer built in the 10th century and located about 75 kilometers away from downtown Buriram. Other temple complex you can see is Prasat Hin Muang Tam located not far from Prakhon Chai, Buriram. For the temple attractions, you can visit Wat Khao Angkhan located in the area called Khao Angkhan. This temple is one of the most beautiful and biggest temples in Buriram. There is also a fairly large-sized Buddha statue called Phra Suphattha Bophit located in Khao Kradong Forest Park or just about six miles from downtown of Buriram.

One of the interesting things you can do in this city is participating in a kite competition usually held in Isan Kite Festival event. The festival is held annually on the first weekend in December each year. Or you can also follow the race boats on Buriram Long Boat Races Festival held every first weekend in November each year. There is also Kradong Reservoir where there is a center for the scout camp known as Bunyanusat and zoo here. The city also offers many cafes which can be visited.

Things to eat

The cuisine in the city is also still influenced by cooking styles from China or India. Usually the cuisine in this city is a refined spicy flavor with its steady trademark. One dishes menu is Gai Pad Grapao which the main ingredient is processed minced chicken with extra garlic, chili and basil. Other popular dishes are Tom Yam Goong, a kind of sour and spicy soup with the addition of shrimp, squid or fish in it. While Tom Kha Gai is a kind of soup with spicy and sour flavors containing chicken slices with extra coconut milk in it with a very tempting aroma of marinade.
