Mackay Airport is a large regional airport, 5 km south of the city, and with close to one million passengers the 14th businest airport in Australia. It is used by all the major Australian airlines, QantasLink, JetStar and Virgin Australia with several flights a day to Brisbane and flights to Sydnes, Melbourne and Cairns.
Mackay Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Mackay Airport, most of these are operated by Qantas. Many people take a flight to Townsville and transfer to another flight there.
If you are heading to Airlie Beach or Bowen you can take the Greyhound shuttle bus which leaves the airport twice a day (at 7am and 6:15pm). Their service desk is just behind the baggage corousal and the busses depart outside the northern terminal doors.
Taxis are available to take you to downtown Mackay for about $10 to $15. Many car hire companies provide their services at the airport as well.
