British Airways is the flag carrier of Great-Britain and its largest airline measured by fleet size, but second when measured by passengers carried (after EasyJet). British Airways was formed in 1974 after the British government decided to merge the two international airlines (British European Airways and British Overseas Airways Corporation) and two regional airlines (Cambrian Airways and Northeast Airlines) into one large airline: British Airways. Initially a state company, the airline was privatized in 1987. It grew by acquiring more airlines: British Caledonian (1987), Dan-Air (1992) and British Midland (2012). In 2011 British Airways merged with Iberia (the national airline of Spain) to form the International Airline Group (IAG), the third-largest airline group in the world.
British Airways has been a long-time Boeing customer and still operates the largest B747 fleet in the world with 41 jumbojets. British Airways used to operate, together with Air France, the only supersonic passenger airliner in the world: the Concorde. The Concorde had a maximum speed of twice the speed of sound: 2180 km/hour while modern passengers jets have a max speed of about 950 km/hour. The Concorde was in operation for 27 year till 2003. A fleet renewal program saw the purchase of 60 B777 in 2007 and British Airways became an Airbus customer with the order of 59 A320 aircraft in 1998 and later 12 A380's in 2007. Currently the airline has a fleet of about 270 aircraft.
British Airways flies to over 205 destinations. Most British Airways flights are for destinations in United States but British Airways has international flights to several other countries as well, like for example United Kingdom and France. From its main base in London 258 flights depart every week. Many people who look for British Airways tickets look for flights to Barcelona and Amsterdam.

British Airways has a very generous hand luggage or carry-on policy: every passenger is allowed to bring two bags (handbag and laptop bag) into the cabin with a maximum weight of 23 kg. One of these should not be larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm while the other should not be larger than 40 x 30 x 15 cm. The passenger has to be able to put the bags in the overhead compartment himself though.
The rules for checked-baggage are also generous but as often they are more complicated depending on route and class. On most flights Economy Class passengers are allowed to check-in one bag with maximum weight of 23 kg. Premium Economy are allowed two bags of each 23 kg. Business Class two bags of 32 kg and First Class can bring three bags of max. 32 kg per bag. There are exceptions on these limits but they all allow you to bring or more bags or more heavier ones.
British Airways has different classes: Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class. Also within these classes there are different travel classes based on your destination: within the Economy Class there is the Euro Traveller (for flights within the UK and Europe) and World Traveller Class (for longer international flights). For each travel class there are different rules for cancellation, refunds and flight changes; these can range from a free cancellation policy to non-refundable tickets. So, best to check these before you book. Of course, more flexible tickets are more expensive.
