Immigration won’t fine for passports lost or damaged in flood

Residents whose passports were lost or damaged in the recent floods will not be fined, the Immigration Directorate General recently announced.


Victims of the flood who wish to apply for a new passport are expected to report to the immigration office and bring along a letter from their subdistrict office stating the occurrence of the flood. They will then undergo an inspection process conducted by the authorities.


In a statement received by kompas.com, Sam Fernando, head of the immigration office’s public relations subdivision, said the policy was a response to complaints expressed by the public whose passports were lost or damaged in the floods.
