IPOH: BUDGET airline Firefly Sdn Bhd's inaugural flight from Senai to Ipoh received an overwhelming response as over 90 per cent of its tickets were snapped up.

The first flight, which began on Monday from the Sultan Ismail Airport (LTSI), Senai, carried 64 passengers.

The flight touched down at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, at 11.45am.

The passengers received a warm welcome from Perak state tourism committee chairperson Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi at the airport.

This is the second route offered by Firefly since it began operations in 2009. Firefly currently flies to Singapore daily.

Nolee said the overwhelming response would encourage Firefly to explore new flight areas such as the Medan-Ipoh and Ipoh-Kota Baru routes.

"œThis Ipoh-Johor Baru route encourages visitors from the southern region to visit Ipoh without having to go through the long road journey which can take almost nine hours.

"œFlying only takes one hour and 20 minutes," she said.

Firefly offers the flight four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Firefly is having a special offer for tickets to Johor Baru starting at RM59 for a one-way route until Sept 28.
